PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Larry Rhoden has approved the deployment of a dozen South Dakota National Guard soldiers to the nation’s capital at the request of the President. The troops, all members of the 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment based in Rapid City, will serve a 30-day mission with the DC National Guard, with the option for a 90-day extension. Rhoden says the move reflects South Dakota’s support for the president. The Guard members are activated under Title 32 status, keeping them under state authority while their pay and benefits are covered by the federal government.
