SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The battle against the Emerald Ash Borer is about to become expensive for a lot of Sioux Falls homeowners. An estimated 65-thousand ash trees need to be removed from private property, and they’re becoming dangerously brittle as they die. The city has authority to remove dangerous trees and charge the homeowner with costs ranging up to ten-thousand dollars per tree. Assistant Parks & Rec Director Brett Kollars says it will be painful for homeowners. City Forestry officials say many ash trees have already reached the point of no return and will only become more expensive to remove as they become more brittle with time.
