Mitchell Basketball
The (RV) Kernel girls basketball team had a matchup with Lyman yesterday in the Corn Palace for their first of two games in the Hoop City Classic. It was another slow start for Mitchell, and they never found a real rhythm on offense. They ended up losing to Lyman, 60-52. Addie Siemsen led Mitchell with 25 points. The No. 4 Kernel boys will be playing tonight when they host Jonesboro (GA) in the Hoop City Classic with tipoff set for 7pm in the Corn Palace.
Mitchell Wrestling
The Kernel wrestling teams return to action this afternoon with competition in town. Both the boys and the girls varsity will be facing Aberdeen Central in a Varsity Dual in the Auxiliary Gym at the Mitchell high school. Girls will begin at 1:30pm and the boys start at 2:30pm.
Mitchell Hockey
The Mitchell Marlins boys varsity team is hosting a Teddy Bear Toss during their home game against Brandon Valley on Friday, Jan. 2 at 8pm in the Mitchell Activity Center. Fans are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear (or stuffed animal) to the game. After the first period, all teddy bears will be thrown onto the ice and then donated to CASA of Mitchell to support children in need throughout our community.
DWU Basketball
The Tiger men’s basketball team was in North Dakota yesterday playing against Bismarck State. It was a dominant performance by DWU, and they blew out Bismarck State for their highest scoring game of the season in a 97-58 win. Anthony Riggans led the team with 21 points. Tonight, the No. 10 women’s basketball team will be hosting Northwestern in the Corn Palace amidst all the Hoop City Classic action. The tipoff is at 5pm.
SDSU Basketball
The Jackrabbit men’s basketball team took on No. 1 Arizona last night. Taking on the top team in the nation is no small challenge and SDSU found that out when they took on the Wildcats and fell on the road, 99-71. Both the men’s and women’s teams play again this Thursday in the new year.
NBA
The Minnesota Timberwolves faced the Chicago Bulls last night on the road. It ended up being a sizeable win for Minnesota as they won it, 136-101. Naz Reid led the way with 33 points off the bench for Minnesota and Julius Randle added a 17-point and 14-rebound double-double. The Timberwolves will play again tomorrow against the Atlanta Hawks.
NFL
Monday Night Football went down last night between the Los Angeles Rams and the Atlanta Falcons. It was quite the day for Bijan Robinson who posted 22 carries for 195 yards rushing and two total touchdowns in the 27-24 win for Atlanta.
