Mitchell Basketball
The Kernel basketball teams finished their regular season last night on the road at O’Gorman. For the (RV) Kernel girls they tried to hang around with the back-to-back Class AA champs for a bit last night, but turnovers prevented that. All due to the stifling full court press from the Knights as it guided them to a 65-34 victory over Mitchell. Addie Siemsen led the way with 16 points and Londyn Hajek added 11. The Mitchell girls finish the regular season 12-8 overall and 7-1 in Eastern South Dakota Conference play. For the boys, it was back and forth all night long, literally. A game with 12 ties and nine lead changes nearly saw overtime, but a late three by O’Gorman sealed the 59-56 win to take down the Kernels. The Mitchell boys finish the regular season 8-11 overall and 4-4 in ESD play. Both teams await their matchup for the SoDak16 where the boys are guaranteed to be on the road, but the girls might still get to host.
Mitchell Wrestling
The Kernel wrestling teams compete in their Varsity State Tournaments again today. Both the boys and the girls remain at the Sioux Falls Premiere Center. Start time is listed as TBD on the Mitchell Activities Calendar. Additionally, multiple boys and girls wrestlers earn Eastern South Dakota All-Conference honors recently. For the girls, it was senior Dani Borja & junior McKala Linke and for the boys it was sophomore Noah Bennett, junior Rocky Clark & sophomore Blaze Sevigny.
DWU Baseball
The Tiger baseball team is playing again in York, NE taking on York for a doubleheader against York (NE). The first pitch will begin at Noon. DWU Softball
The Tiger softball team is in action today and are also on the road. They will be in Sioux Center, IA for a doubleheader against two different teams. DWU will play Dickinson State (ND) at 4pm and then face Haskell at 6pm. They will also play again tomorrow at Noon against William Penn (IA) and at 4pm against Viterbo.
NBA
The Minnesota Timberwolves took on the Los Angeles Clippers last night on the road. It was a rough night for LA from beyond the arc as they shot just 5-for-22 (23%) and were unable to get past Minnesota as the Timberwolves won it, 94-88. Anthony Edwards led the way with 31 points, and they had five players in double figures scoring. Minnesota is now 37-23 overall.
